Yarram is situated in the South Gippsland, and is only 2.5 hours from Melbourne. The town was gazetted in 1893; however, was originally known as ‘Yarram Yarram’ until 1924; the origins of the name are thought to have originated from an Aboriginal phrase meaning ‘plenty of water’. Today, Yarram is still a rural farming town with a population of 2,100 people.
Yarram offer RV travellers a wide variety of free services, including 24 hour parking at Tarra River Rec Area, 96 hour parking at White Woman’s Waterhole, and a dump point and potable water which can be found along Buckley Street.
Yarram is a wonderful place to visit, especially for RV travellers. The town is in close proximity to Ninety Mile Beach, the spectacular cool rainforest of the Tarra-Bulga National Park, the Strzelecki Ranges and Wilsons Promontory.
