Blanchetown is home to Lock No.1 on the Murray River, located 135 kilometres north-east of Adelaide. The town was one of the first river settlements in South Australia, and operated the Customs House where goods were cleared from passing through paddle steamers.
Parking is permitted at the Old Ferry Landing on The Parade for up to 24 hours at no cost. Toilets, potable water and bins are provided at this location, and pets are permitted on leads. A dump point is available at Blanchetown Oval on South Terrace, and an additional source of potable water can also be found near the public toilets at Lock 1 Reserve.
The township’s many charming heritage buildings can be explored on the Blanchetown Historical Walk. The Blanchetown Hotel is has been trading on its present site for 117 years, and is a perfect example of pioneer architecture. The hotel also hosts the famous ‘Yabby Races’ every Australia Day long weekend, a fun event and opportunity to mingle with the locals.
