Moulamein is part of the Wakool Shire and is situated on the banks of the Edwards River and Billabong Creek, 70 kilometres from Barham and Swan Hill. Moulamein has a population of around 500 and is the oldest town in the Riverina, with grain being the main produce. It is a popular camping and fishing destination all year round with plenty of waterside camping options.
Those travelling to Moulamein can find three short-term parking options available in town; Brougham Street, Carne Street and Morago Street. All parking options are free of charge and have a time limit of 96 hours.
Tourist attractions include the historic wharf where paddle steamers used to drop off and pick up supplies, the old courthouse which is now a museum, the Mooloomoon Woolshed which was the first along the river to unload wool bales straight onto paddle steamers, the grain storage facility, art gallery, the Old Bullock Dray and Moulamein Lake is a great venue for water sports. Local events include monthly fishing competitions and an old-world collectables fair, the Moulamein horse races in December, sheep dog trials in September, a bowls tournament over the June long weekend and yabby races and a duathlon during the Easter holidays.
