Nyngan is located on the banks of the Bogan River, near the junction of the Barrier Highway to South Australia and Mitchell Highway to Queensland. It is 583 kilometres north-west of Sydney in central west NSW. The towns historical buildings and places of interest include the post office, courthouse, town hall, Anglican and Catholic churches and a number of private homes, which serve as a reminder that Nyngan was once a major rail centre for the whole of north-west New South Wales.
Nyngan’s streets are wide and straight, with ample parking areas close to the town centre, and tourist attractions such as the Nyngan Museum and Mid-State Shearing Shed Museum. Rotary Park on the Bogan River is an excellent picnic spot with easily accessible parking, toilets, bbq’s and tables available. The usually serene river offers excellent opportunities for fishing, skiing and bird watching.
