Cummins is a small town on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, 67km north of Port Lincoln. The town was named after William Patrick Cummins, a member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1896 to 1907. The major industries in the town are sheep and grain growing and there is a narrow gauge railway line to the deep-water port at Port Lincoln for exporting grain. In the past, Cummins has been known as the host of major community events including World Championship Kalamazoo Races, Wildeloo Music Festival and the Cummins Airshow.
Those visiting the area can find short and long-term parking at Cummins Caravan and Cabin Park. Parking is available for a cost of $20 per vehicle per night for an unpowered site, which includes water and use of laundry facilities. A dump point and potable water are also available on-site.
While in town be sure to stop at the visitor information outlet where you can obtain information for an easy walking tour of the town. Or, for those keen to drive on a true ‘bush’ route, follow the marked old bush school sites, taking you through vast expanses of crop, sheep and cattle country. Suitable for most vehicles, maps are available at the visitor information outlet. If you are looking for a day trip, you will be met with varied and picturesque scenery if you travel the half an hour drive to the east or west coast. Both regions are renowned for beautiful swimming and surf beaches, as well as magnificent fishing locations.
