Richmond - QLD RVFT
Richmond is situated in outback Queensland halfway between Townsville and Mt Isa. The surrounding region is very stark and dramatic but the town itself lying on the banks of the Flinders River boasts colourful bougainvillea grassy parks and a recreational lake. The area around Richmond was once covered by an inland sea making it a great place to find marine and dinosaur fossils. Kronosaurus Korner an award winning fossil museum houses an amazing collection of fossils found in the area some of which are the most significant ever found. The Visitor Information Centre which provides fossicking maps heritage walk maps and other tourist information is also found here.
Those visiting Richmond can find parking for up to 72 hours at the Richmond RV Park located in Hillier Street. Visitors must register at Kronosaurus Korner and sites are available for $5 per 72hrs stay Use of the dump point is included with this rate. Potable water is obtainable from every tap located within town.
Richmond is a lush oasis in the middle of outback Queensland and offers visitors many of the essential services as well as unique tourist attractions. The town is host to many festivals throughout the year including four race days a rodeo Australia Day celebrations a fishing competition and the biennial Fossil Festival and camel races.
