Port Hedland is the second largest town in the Pilbara region and is located approximately 612km from Broome. Known as Marapikurrinya by the local Indigenous people, this town has a population of almost 16,000 people. The town is renowned for its massive resource industry, long trains, big ships and salt piles.
Free short-term parking is available for self-contained vehicles for up to 72 hours at Port Hedland Turf Club, McGregor Street. Pets on leads are permitted and both the dump point and potable water are located on-site.
Port Hedland is a great place to visit, especially in August when the town is alive for their North West Festival. Some other local attractions include visiting BHP Billiton and taking a tour of the area, seeing the Staircase to the Moon and the local history and town tour to really get to know the area.
