Babinda is a village 60 kilometres south of Cairns and 1,710 kilometres north of Brisbane. The town is considered the rainforest entrance to Cairns City and is surrounded by picturesque, lush country and world renowned rainforest. There is abundant wildlife around Babinda, as well as secluded swimming holes and untouched rainforest. The town itself is situated between two of Queensland’s highest mountains, Mount Bartle Frere and Mount Bellenden Ker, both of which have stunning national parks popular for platypus and cassowary spotting. Upon entering the township of Babinda, you will come across an historic blue timber building now housing the popular information centre. Many years ago this same building was the local police station and was used to dispense local law enforcement. Now it dispenses helpful information on the town and the region's many attractions.
Those visiting Babinda can find short and long term parking at Babinda Rotary Park Free Camping Area off Howard Kennedy Drive and Babinda Boulders Free Camping Area at the end of Boulders Road. Both areas allow for parking for up to 48 hours. A dump point and potable water is available at the Rotary Park.
With eco-systems ranging from mountains, rivers and rainforests to swamps and beautiful beaches, this area has everything to offer. It is a very well serviced, pleasant town with excellent amenities.
