Beechworth is one of Australia's best-preserved gold-rush era towns, located in the north-east of Victoria. Originally used for grazing by the settler David Reid, the area was known as Mayday Hills until 1853, when it was renamed Beechworth. From bountiful harvests and locally foraged ingredients, to craft beer brewed in the centre of town, to internationally renowned local wines, Beechworth boasts a vibrant local food scene. Be sure to immerse yourself in history and culture by taking a walk along the paths that paved the gold rush area of the 1950s, or visit the gaol that hosted infamous bushranger Ned Kelly.
Those visiting Beechworth can find short and long-term parking at Lake Sambell Caravan Park, Peach Drive. Sites are $15 per person per night (reviewed annually) and stays are unlimited. Vehicles must be fully self-contained and displaying the CMCA self-contained sticker. Lake Sambell Caravan Park also offers a free dump point to CMCA members, or a small fee of $5 applies for use by non-members. Potable water can also be obtained at the park for a small fee.
