Barcaldine was one of the first towns in Central Western Queensland to be registered as RV Friendly. When visitors arrive in Barcaldine they are always impressed with how many locals stop and say G'Day. Barcaldine residents are very tourism friendly and have a genuine interest in getting to know more about the people who visit their town. The Visitor Information Centre, in Oak Street and the friendly staff will help with brochures and information to ensure your stay is enjoyable. Many organisations such as the Cultural Centre and Rotary encourage visitors to call in and meet them at their functions and meetings. There is also the Grey Nomad project that aims to get visitors and locals together to work on community projects. Many visitors have expressed a wish to get to know the locals and to give something back to the communities that have welcomed them. A place to visit is the Australian Workers Heritage Centre where a tribute to the history of all Australian working men and women is on display. Set in five acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, it is the perfect spot for a picnic or barbecue. For a meal there are plenty of restaurants and hotels in Barcaldine along with cafes and takeaways. Visit Gay at 'Roses n Things Cafe' for a meal or snack amongst an abundance of roses and pick up that special little gift from the shop.
Barcaldine offers visitors to the area, 24 hour parking at Barcaldine Rest Area. For those needing access to potable water and a dump point, Barcaldine Showground offers these facilities.
