Herberton is located 122 kilometres south-west of Cairns and 18 kilometres from Atherton in North Queensland and is the oldest town on the Atherton Tablelands. The towns fascinating history is brought to life at the Herberton Mining Museum and Visitor Information Centre. The Museum is also the starting point for the Great Northern Walking Trails, and the short Mine Walk has some remarkable examples of early mining machinery. For a look at the town's historical buildings, take the self-guided Heritage Walk or drop into the Herberton Historical Village, which pays homage to the region's pioneering past and features lovingly restored heritage buildings, iconic Queensland vehicles and household items. Also worth a visit is the Spy and Camera Museum, featuring the world's rarest, oldest and smallest cameras, oldest sewing machine, police pocket watch camera (circa 1904), KGB and Russian spy cameras and much more. Nature lovers and walkers can enjoy a visit to nearby Mount Hypipamee National Park, with its rainforest clad mountains, volcanic crater and the spectacular Dinner Falls.
Those visiting Herberton can find short and long term parking at Wild River Caravan Park, and sites are available for a cost of $10 per person per night for an unpowered site. A dump point is available in Grove Street, and potable water can be obtained from the Herberton Visitor Information Centre, located in Jack's Road.
Herberton is a wonderful place to visit, especially for RV travellers.
