Inverell is located 489 kilometres south-west of Brisbane and 675 kilometres north-west of Sydney. Known as the ‘Sapphire City’, Inverell is popular due to its great country hospitality, beautiful climate, spectacular scenery and wide range of entertaining activities. As part of the Fossickers Way, this thriving rural city offers much for the traveller. The Copeton and Pindari Dams attract visitors for water skiing, speed boat racing, sailing and fishing. Those visiting the area can find short and long term parking at Inverell Showground, Tingha Rd. Sites will cost $30 per vehicle per night, with six sites available. If the showground is full please call into the Visitor Information Centre to get information on other low-cost options as there are a few to choose from. A dump point is also located at the showground, and potable water can be found at the Visitor Information Centre.
Whilst travelling to Inverell, why not stretch your legs in Goonoowigall Bushland Reserve, a unique wilderness area that supports some 120 species of native birds. Explore the marked walking trails and look out for Thunderbolts Rock and the remains of a Chinese settlement. Other highlights include walking back in time at the Inverell Pioneer Village, a re-created colonial village; and the Inverell Transport Museum, with its display of all things wheeled.
