Tantanoola is in the south of the Wattle Range Council area, located ten kilometres south of Millicent, 51 kilometres south of Beachport and 67 kilometres west of Penola. In 1893, there were reports of a strange animal in the Tantanoola area; it was described as a tiger. The tiger prowled the district for several years and in 1895, the tiger was killed, only to be discovered that it was actually an Assyrian Wolf and is now on display in a glass case at the Tantanoola Tiger Hotel.
Those visiting Tantanoola can find casual and short-term parking at Tantanoola Park (across from the Tantanoola Hotel). There are 30 parking spots available for nil charge and stays are limited to 48 hours. Toilets are available and dogs are allowed, provided they are on a lead. A dump point and potable water can be found at Tantanoola Park Tank.
The spectacular Tantanoola Cave is located 16 kilometres from Millicent on the Princes Highway. It is the only single chamber pink dolomite cave in Australia and features easy access pathways, which are suitable for wheelchair access. The strategically placed lighting enhances the Cave’s natural beauty and is open daily for tours.
