Leeton is located within the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) of south-west NSW. It is 130 kilometres from Wagga Wagga and only 30 kilometres from Griffith, Narrandera, the Newell Highway, Kidman Way and the Sturt Highway. As the first town planned for the MIA, Leeton was designed by Walter Burley Griffin and has blossomed with Australia’s agricultural fortunes, clearly evident in the art deco features that give character to the main streets. There are 21 buildings listed with the Art Deco Society of NSW, including the landmark Roxy Theatre, which has been screening movies since 1930. Make your first port of call in town the Visitor Information Centre, a beautifully restored building set in a `heritage' garden. Photographs show the pioneering days and there’s extensive information on the area. For those interested in agricultural history, the Leeton SunRice Centre has comprehensive photographic and product displays on the Australian rice industry. The Riverina’s mild winters and sunny summers are perfect for outdoors activities. There are 102 hectares of public parks and reserves within the Leeton Shire, including river red gum forests along the Murrumbidgee River and the Ramsar-listed Fivebough and Tuckerbil wetlands – renowned among birdwatchers for hosting migratory birds from the northern hemisphere during warmer months of the year. If the weather turns bad there is also a variety of restaurants, clubs, pubs and cafes, ensuring there’s always something to do in and around Leeton.

Those visiting Leeton can find short-term parking at Leeton Showground, Racecourse Rd. Sites are $10 per vehicle per night for an unpowered site, and you are welcome to stay for up to 48 hours. Please note, vehicles must be fully self-contained, however, a dump point and potable water is available here.

Leeton is a lovely town to visit, especially for RV travellers.
