Glenorchy is Tasmania’s fourth largest city. It is located on the western shore of the River Derwent below the imposing, Mount Wellington. Settled in 1804, Glenorchy was primarily an agricultural centre for the first 100 years of its settlement, until the zinc smelter at Lutana commenced operations and transformed Glenorchy into the industrial hub of southern Tasmania. For those passing through, the area offers plenty of scenic locations to go for a walk, from a foreshore stroll to challenging bushwalks in the foothills of Mount Wellington. There are also a wide variety of attractions to visit including ‘MONA’ - The Museum of Old and New Art - the largest privately funded museum in the southern hemisphere. Situated at 655 Main Road, Berriedale, it is one of the only Australian travel experiences that offer an internationally significant museum and art gallery, fine dining, wine bar, a vineyard, cellar door tastings and accommodation.

Those visiting Glenorchy can find short and long-term parking at Royal Hobart Showground, 2 Howard Rd. Unpowered sites are available for $22 per vehicle per night and powered sites are available for $25 per vehicle per night; however, these rates are only offered to CMCA members once a valid membership card is presented. Stays are limited to 14 days and access to the dump point and potable water is included. 

There are plenty of attractions to see and plenty of activities to engage in within the Glenorchy region. The Intercity Cycleway from Claremont to Hobart offers easy access to attractions such as MONA, the Cadbury Visitor Centre and GASP! The world-renowned Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park is located at the mountain end of Tolosa Street and the Mount Wellington North-South bike track.
