Gympie - QLD RVFT

The City of Gympie is located on the Bruce Highway 170 kilometres north of Brisbane. Gympie became known as ‘the town that saved Queensland’ with the discovery of gold in 1867. At the time the state of Queensland was struggling with financial hardship due to drought and a fall in wool prices. Within six months over 15,000 people had made their way to the goldfields from which the town of Gympie flourished. The city is a major regional service centre offering travellers most modern conveniences. The city features beautiful historic 19th century Victorian buildings, as well as manicured parks and gardens, an art gallery, and many dining options. Located in Mary Street you will find a variety of bars, cafés, banks and other shopping facilities. Regular markets and other events make the region an attractive place to visit. Annual events include the Gympie Music Muster held the last weekend every August, the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival (May), Tin Can Bay Seafood Festival (September) and RUSH Festival (October), to name only a few.

Visitors to Gympie can find short term parking for up to 24 hours at Two Mile Rest Area, Bruce Hwy, which is approximately 5km N of Gympie. A dump point and potable water is also available at this location. For those wishing to stay and explore the region for a little longer, parking  is available for up to 48 hours at Gunalda Campground, Bruce Hwy, which is approximately 20km N of Gympie.

Gympie is an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful surrounding coastal areas of Tin Can Bay (famous for its friendly dolphins), Fraser Island, and Rainbow Beach which is famous for its unique rainbow coloured sand cliffs.
