Port Victoria is a small coastal town on the western coast of Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, 200 kilometres from Adelaide. The port, like many other coastal towns, used to be a thriving port for the export of grain to England. Being quite a major port, there was an anchorage offshore for the larger windjammers. As the last working sailing ship visited in 1949, port Victoria is now known as ‘the last of the windjammer ports’. This era is well illustrated in the Maritime Museum, found on the water front, housed in the original general cargo shed which was bought out from England in kit form in 1877. Today, Port Victoria remains primarily a fishing town.
Short and long-term parking is available at Port Victoria Oval on Kuhn Terrace for $10 per vehicle per night. A dump point and potable water can also be located at the oval, along with toilets and bins, and pets are allowed on leads.
Port Victoria is a wonderful place to visit for fishermen and families looking for pristine waters, white sandy swimming beaches, and a relaxed laid back holiday experience. Some of the other major attractions found in the town include the Barley Stacks Winery, nearby Warding Island Diving Trail, art galleries, beaches and walking trails.
