Millicent - SA RVFT

Millicent is located in South Australia and is estimated to be about 469 kilometres west of Melbourne, 401 kilometres southeast of Adelaide, and 50 kilometres north of Mount Gambier. The town was first proclaimed in 1870 after a township was developed on the limestone ridge in the centre of the Millicent flats. It is named after Millicent Glen, daughter of the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide and wife of one of the early pioneers. Millicent soon became well known as a major rural centre for the South Coast and population grew as pine plantations developed in the nearby ranges. Today, the local industries include paper and pulp manufacturing, as well as a variety of crops, such as blue gum and pine plantations.

Visitors to Millicent can find overnight parking in rest areas north and south of the towns centre on the Princes Highway. Stays are free of charge and are limited to 24 hours. A dump point and potable water are located at the Visitors Information Centre.

While in town you will be spoilt for choice; from the historical museums and native wildlife reserves to the walking trails and magnificent views of natural wonders, you will be planning your return visit before you have even left the region. The Living History Museum, located next door to the Information Centre, has evolved around the old school house. The Millicent, Victoriana, Aboriginal and Natural History rooms are located here and include over 20 fully restored horse drawn vehicles which are an impressive feature of the Museum.
