Warialda - NSW RVFT

Warialda, in north-west NSW, lies at the intersection of two main roads and is situated 190 kilometres north of Tamworth, along the Fossickers Way and 62 kilometres north-west of Inverell, via the Gwydir Highway. The district is primarily agricultural, with a diverse range of industries, including cropping, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, horses, aquaculture, olives, alpacas, ostriches and pecan nuts. The town's name is said to mean 'place of wild honey' and presumably derives from the tongue of the original inhabitants, the Weraerai Aborigines. This safe and friendly community invites visitors to enjoy its abundant country charm and hospitality.

Those who are travelling to Warialda can find short and long term parking at Saleyards Rest Area, Gwydir Hwy. A dump point and potable water is also available at this location.

When visiting Warialda, pay a visit to Cranky Rock Recreation Reserve, with its excellent picnic facilities, free barbecues, suspension bridge, birdlife and wildlife sanctuary. There is a camping area with power, a kiosk and bush shower facilities. Cranky Rock itself is a jumble of giant boulders heaped in the most fantastic positions by a past volcanic upheaval. Take a walk along the Koorilgur Nature Walk, go fishing, or try your luck at fossicking for gold, garnets, agates or a variety of other semi-precious gems. Compare your finds to the gems in the Well’s Gem and Mineral Collection, which includes rough, cut and polished stones. This collection is housed at the Visitor Information Centre in the Heritage Centre on Hope Street.
