Known as the ‘Oasis in the Desert’, Bedourie is the administration centre of the Diamantina Shire, which covers an area of 94,690 square kms. It was settled in the 1880’s as a major watering and rest stop for drovers moving cattle from the north to Birdsville.
Those visiting Bedourie can find short-term parking at Bedourie Tourist Park. There is no time limit to stay here, and sites will cost $10 per vehicle per night for unpowered and $15 per vehicle per night for powered.
Things to see and do in Bedourie include the magnificent artesian spa and swimming pool, the heritage listed Mud Hut, the Royal Hotel, the cemetery and the outback nine hole golf course. The town itself has many facilities such as restaurants and a tavern, a general store, post office, fuel and auto services, a police station and medical clinic. There is a dump point located 0.5 km along the Boulia Road.
