Located in the eastern branch of the Balonne River, Dirranbandi is known as the town that marks the end of the Southwest Rail Line. The town sits on the border of Queensland and New South Wales and has a population of approximately 640 people.
RV parking is available at Balonne Minor Bridge Camp on Bollon-Dirranbandi Road. There is a maximum stay of 72 hours, and fees are by way of a donation. Pets on leads are welcome. The town’s dump point and potable water are accessible on Dirranbandi-Hebel Road.
Make sure to make some time for the Dirranbandi Bakery – a highlight for many visitors to town. Their stocked-up cabinets feature homemade pies, bakery favourites such as vanilla slice, as well as sweet Russian delights. Visitors should also visit Cubbie Station. This is the largest irrigated cotton farm in the southern hemisphere. A four-wheel drive guided tour of the farm is not to be missed.
