Latrobe, once a bustling port, is located on the banks of the Mersey River in north-west Tasmania. This historical town reflects a relaxing atmosphere, with a friendly and welcoming ambiance. 

Those visiting Latrobe can find short-term parking at Latrobe Council Stop Spot, located in Cotton Street, behind IGA on the grassed area. Sites are available for $10 per vehicle per night and includes access to a dump point and potable water. 

Latrobe has an abundance of places to visit and things to see. The Tourist Information Centre (TIC), located in Bells Parade, has a wide range of brochures and material to help you explore the region. Don’t forget to book your tours and pick up your souvenirs. The TIC is open 7 days with free parking available. For the history buffs there are 75 heritage listed buildings within the town, such as the Courthouse Museum and Sherwood Hall. The House of Anvers is just the place for all you chocoholics, with chocolate tasting every day of the week from 7am – 5pm. Some of the wonderful walks to enjoy in the area include Dooley’s Hill and the Sheean Walk, a tree lined stroll with plaques along the way depicting contributions Australians made during various conflicts. The Warrawee Forest Reserve meanders along the banks of the Mersey River. Many of these areas have picnic and barbeque facilities where a relaxing lunch can be enjoyed. The Latrobe Landcare Group conduct platypus tours of this area; early morning or at dusk is the best time to catch a glimpse of these amazing creatures in their natural habitat.
