Pingelly is a small agricultural town situated in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia, approximately 158 kilometres Southeast of Perth. With a population of approximately 1,260 it is a genuinely small, friendly town with a great community spirit. Memorial Park, in the main street of town, has been upgraded to host picnics in the beautiful, gardened grass area, whilst children play on the newly refurbished play areas. New barbecue facilities are available free to the public. Free Wi-Fi and publics toilets are available. The Pioneer Park is another great location for recreational use with barbecue and picnic facilities, also a short walk from the traveller’s rest area. The Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre is a marvellous, unique sustainable wooden building, and an interesting place to stop by and watch the footy or enjoy dinner at the Stringybark Bistro. The Pingelly Hotel and the Exchange Tavern are also within walking distance from the rest area and provide hearty meals, and ice-cold beverages. The Town Hall is home to the Driver Revivor and the Pingelly Museum. For anyone interested in History, the Pingelly Museum has some great displays of historic photographs, local memorabilia, buggies, sulkies, and more. We mustn’t forget the unique “weather Rock” outside the Old Pingelly Courthouse. Why not explore the pioneering past of the areas on the Mourambine Heritage Trial which begins at St Patrick’s Church and takes in several early settler’s cottages. Consider visiting the local reserves including the Boyagin Rock Nature reserve, with a blissful hiking trail, Dryandra Woodland which is home to over 100 species of birds and 24 mammals and scenic area and the Barna Mia Animal Sanctuary, or the Tutanning Reserve, situated on 2381 hectares of bushwalking, bird watching, wildflower rambles and more. Pingelly is also a significant part of the Hothan Way Trail tourist drive, with fascinating story told along the way. The trail follows Hotham River between Pingelly and Pinjarra passing though the towns of Wandering, Bodington, and Dwellingup. Along the Hotham way tourists can visit wineries, olive groves and artisans who open their doors to the public.
