Euston is a quiet, scenic little river town located in the southwestern region of New South Wales. The town itself has a population of fewer than 1,000 residents, and lies just six kilometres downstream of Robinvale, Victoria. Euston is located approximately 500 kilometres northwest of Melbourne, 500 kilometres east of Adelaide and 1,000 kilometres west of Sydney. Euston is a centralised village featuring wide streets with easy parking for recreational vehicles. Euston’s close proximity to Robinvale (six kilometres) provides traveller’s access to a wider range of facilities and specialty stores.
The town of Euston grew from the site of Boomiarcool Station, established by Edmund Morey in 1846. Named after Euston Mansion in Suffolk, England, the riverside town flourished as a trading port in the 1800s with barges transporting locally produced wheat and wool. The only remaining building from the prosperous time of Euston’s past is the recently restored courthouse, which stands proudly in the main street of Euston. Built in 1850, the courthouse provides an insight into the history of the area and now also serves as a museum.
Agricultural and livestock farming remain an important element of the Euston economy, with vineyards now comprising a great deal of the surrounding farming land.
Tourism has also proved a lucrative industry for Euston, with the town famed for its excellent fishing spots and riverside camping areas.
For RV travellers, Euston is a welcoming oasis with free parking throughout town, and two Visitor Information Centres located nearby. Lake Benanee is a popular freedom camping spot located just 13 kilometres east of Euston along the Sturt Highway. It has barbeques and toilets and is an attractive place to stop a while by the Lake. Because Euston is skirted by the Sturt Highway, the town seems to be secluded, adding to the attraction of this scenic little haven.
