Jandowae - QLD RVFT

Jandowae is a quiet rural town located within the Western Downs Region of southern Queensland and is situated 259 kilometres west of Brisbane. The town was originally established with a focus on agriculture and the timber industry. If the name Jandowae rings any bells, then perhaps you may recall a town selling land from as little as $1.00 a few years ago? That’s right; the infamous town of Jandowae developed this initiative when a decline in population was having a negative impact on the town’s economic status. This creative tactic boosted the town’s population, and today there are over 1,000 residents of Jandowae as well as numerous new businesses. Jandowae is an attractive town with wide, tree lined streets. Jandowae Visitor Information Centre is open both Saturday and Sunday. The retail district of Jandowae has a full range of speciality facilities and services, making it the ideal location for RV travellers to stop and shop. There are a number of historic buildings within the town as well as the historic precinct of Athlone Cottage. The Heritage listed Jimbour House is only 15 minutes up the road; there are incredible gardens on display as well as an enjoyable historic walk.

Visitors to the area can find short-term parking at Jandowae Showgrounds, Warra Street for up to 96 hours. Unpowered sites will start from $10 per vehicle per night and powered sites from $15 per vehicle per night. The Jandowae Golf Club also offers stays for up to 72 hours. Lions Park offer a free dump point and potable water and access to several facilities right in the centre of town, thus making it the ideal spot for exploring this beautiful town.

While visiting why not go on some day trips out to other local towns within the area, such as Chinchilla, Dalby, Miles, Tara, Wandoan and their districts? Each town offers their own unique sights and attractions, and Jandowae is the perfect base stop.
