The small inland town of Theodore is situated on the Leichhardt Highway and the Dawson River. The River and Theodore Weir have over the years provided irrigation to sustain the towns farming and agricultural industries. This is evident in the beautiful lawns and gardens, as well as the palm tree lined main street, The Boulevard, which is wide enough to cater for larger motorhomes. Theodore township was established in 1922 on land at the junction of the Dawson River and Castle Creek, with water provided by the nearby weir. The Hotel Theodore was opened as a hostel to cater for the many people coming to settle in the area. The community became the hostel shareholders and profits from the present day hotel are now used to support community projects. The Dawson Folk Museum, located at the end of Second Avenue, contains many fascinating historical displays and records of the early days of Theodore.
Those looking to stay in Theodore can find short-term parking at Junction Park. Parking is limited to 48 hours and visitors have access to the dump point and potable water.
Theodore is a wonderful place to visit, especially for RV travellers. The town has a large variety of shops to explore and you can pick up supplies at one of the two supermarkets. There are cafes, restaurants and take away food outlets and the Hotel Theodore has counter meals.
