Isisford - QLD RVFT

The outback town of Isisford is situated approximately 1,200 kilometres from Brisbane and 120 kilometres from Longreach. The town lies on the tranquil Coolibah lined banks of the Barcoo River, where fishing for Yellowbelly has become a favourite pastime.

Settled in the mid 1800s, the main industries now include beef, sheep and cereal. Isisford also displays a range of architecture reflecting the lifestyle of an isolated community. The Outer Barcoo Interpretive Centre has a museum depicting the evolution of nature from 100 million years ago to the present. The feature attraction is a life sized replica model of a crocodile ancestor that lived around 98 million years ago. The Centre also has a restaurant, craft and art displays and a 60 seat theatre.

The Isis Downs Shearing Shed is the largest in Australia. Fabricated in England, it was shipped and built 20 kilometres from Isisford in 1913.

Isisford is the home to Clancy’s Overflow Hotel, located in St Mary Street. Built in 1898, the hotel was named in honour of Banjo Paterson’s Clancy of the Overflow. Stop in, say g’day and enjoy an ice cold ale.

Bring with you your enthusiasm for things unspoilt and take back memories of Isisford’s history, culture and great hospitality.
