Kapunda is located on the Light River, and is situated near the Barossa Valley, just 79km north of Adelaide. If arriving via the southern entrance of the town, visitors will be greeted by Map Kernow, a 7.5m statue that looms over the road as you enter. This is a depiction of the Cornish Miner, in memory of those who settled Kapunda when the copper-mining boom hit the town in the 1840s.
The Kapunda Tourist Park on Montefiore Street offers visitors parking for just $10 per vehicle per night, for up to 90 hours. Vehicles must be self-contained, however, visitors can utilise the dump point and potable water for free (no access to toilets and showers). Toilets are available at the Visitor Information Centre. Alternatively, there is a free dump point and potable water available at the Kapunda Harness Racing Club.
Davidson Reserve is a delightful spot to stop and catch your breath and relax for a while, and the resident birdlife adds to the tranquility of this quiet location, which is just 500 metres from Kapunda’s main street.
