Bathurst - NSW RVFT

Bathurst, gateway to central New South Wales, is located at the junction of three highways – the Great Western, Mid Western and Mitchell Highways. It is a beautiful city located beside the Macquarie River, with a town centre that features historic buildings and leafy parks. Bathurst was declared a town site in 1815, making it Australia’s first inland settlement, and the town boomed after the discovery of gold there in the mid 1800’s. It is renowned for its history and you will have fun wandering the streets discovering the plaques, monuments, parks and buildings that contribute to the story of Bathurst. The Visitor Information Centre has maps of self-guided walks and heritage drives for the city and the region, as well as information on where to throw in a line or spread out your picnic blanket. They also have a fully restored Cobb & Co coach. For more history on the region visit the Bathurst District Historical Society, which is housed in the very impressive Courthouse building. In addition there is also the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, which includes a complete T-Rex skeleton. For those more interested in the modern day, you can drive around the Mount Panorama motor-racing circuit. At the bottom, visit the National Motor Racing Museum and look out for the photo opportunity just outside, where you can become ‘King of the Mountain’. Just outside of Bathurst are the historic gold villages of Hill End, Sofala and Wattle Flat, as well as the heritage listed Rockley and Trunkey Creek, gateway to the lovely Abercrombie Caves. Each village has its own stories for you to uncover while you mingle with the locals, visit the cemeteries and ramble the country roads.

The city of Bathurst has all the modern conveniences and businesses to complement your travels, with a nice mix of boutiques, shops and major retail outlets. A dump point is located at Caravan Solutions in Corporation Avenue and parking is available at Berry Park on Lions Club Drive.

Bathurst is a great location to use as a base while you explore the surrounding areas. There’s heaps to do, lots of places to explore and characters to meet.
