Nyah, nestled on the banks of the Murray River, is a border town located on the Murray Valley Highway, 371 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. Nyah West, with its old world charm, is a heritage town, and the most complete 1920’s-style town in Victoria. It is also the business and commercial centre of the area. Both are small, prosperous towns within an irrigation district which produces wine, vegetables and dried fruit. The area is also proud of its almond growing, cereal cropping, dairy, sheep and cattle industries.

Stay in Nyah and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of a rural bush setting on the banks of the Murray. As well as the natural attraction of the Murray River and the opportunity to try for that elusive Murray cod, the adjacent Nyah and Vinifera Red Gum State Forests offer a myriad of wildlife including birds and kangaroos. This is also a very important area for Aboriginal history, with the forest being home to various sacred Aboriginal sites.

Follow the region’s wine trail or pick up a district drive map from Burton’s Store in Nyah or the Swan Hill Region Information Centre. For the ultimate pioneer experience, visit the Pioneer Settlement at Swan Hill or take a ride on one of the only remaining paddle steamers in Victoria. Dining on the waterfront of the Murray River is another favourite with the tourists.

The local Lions Club holds a market every second Saturday of the month and there are Traders Market Days for special events during the year.

Nyah/Nyah West are just large enough to be able to provide many of the facilities required by RV travellers, but still small enough to offer that small town charm many travellers enjoy.
