Thallon is a lovely rural town, located 517km west of Brisbane along the Carnarvon Highway. The town is known for prime grain growing, including wheat, chickpeas and oats. Thallon’s first permanent grain silo was built in 1969 and in 1977 the two giant silos were constructed. A stroll down past the silos will bring you to Barney’s Beach on the banks of the Moonie River. The town park incorporating the memorial statue ‘Anzac Digger’ is a great place to rest and picnic - So, how do you know you have reached Thallon? Two giant grain silos!
Casual parking is available in Pine Street. Free of charge, short and long term parking is at the Thallon Recreational Grounds, corner of Carnarvon Highway & Noondoo-Thallan Road for 96 hours. The dump point and potable water is also available at the recreational grounds.
The Francis Hotel is the ultimate ‘one stop shop’ offering everything from delicious pub meals to groceries and even a post office, making Thallon the perfect place to base yourself when exploring the region.
