Adelong is a small, historical town on the Snowy Valleys Way touring route, approximately 411 kilometres south-west of Sydney. The town was pioneered during the gold rush of the 1800s, and evidence of this era remains in the heritage listed main street, and the Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins. By 1914, the Adelong Creek and hillsides had produced over 25 tonnes of gold, worth over $300 million in today’s currency.
Self-contained vehicles are welcome to stay at the pet-friendly Adelong Showgrounds for up to 72 hours, free of charge. Facilities include bins, toilets, and access to water, with a dump point located nearby on Travers Street.
Adelong is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, with the nearby rivers, creeks and mountains providing scenic drives and tranquil picnic spots. The Snowy Mountains and ski fields of the Kosciusko National Park are located within a day’s drive from Adelong, making it a convenient base to explore this area.
