Mundubbera is a town in the Wide Bay Burnett region of Queensland, located on the Burnett Highway, 405 kilometres north-west of Brisbane and 200 kilometres west of Bundaberg. Mundubbera is built on the bank of the Burnett River and claims to be the ‘Citrus Capital of Queensland’, a fact reinforced by having a 'big mandarin' (known sometimes as the Enormous Ellendale) to greet visitors who approach the town from the coast. The Mundubbera area was first settled by Europeans in the late 1840s. In 1848 Mundubbera Station was established as a sheep grazing property and the following year the Archer brothers, who were to become some of the largest landholders in Central Queensland, moved into the area.
Those visiting the area can find short-term parking at Mundubbera Showground located in Bunce Street. Sites are $22 per vehicle per night and a time limit of 24 hours applies. Potable water can be obtained from both Archer Park & Bicentennial Park, and a dump point is located on Bauer Street.
Mundubbera is a wonderful place to visit, especially for RV travellers. Local attractions include Bicentennial Park, home to a steam train and a tree grown from a seed gathered from the Lone Pine at Gallipoli. The nearby Auburn River National Park is a good location to find Queensland Lungfish, a rare living fossil found only in the Burnett and Mary Rivers. This Park is popular with bushwalkers and rock climbers. It features cascades, great swimming spots, caves, balancing rocks and superb scenery.
