Ouyen is in the Rural City of Mildura, at the junction of the Calder and Mallee Highways, 105 kilometres south of Mildura and 441 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. The town was established around the Ouyen railway station, which was built in 1906. The post office then opened in 1907, and this was the junction for the railway line parallel to the Mallee Highway. Today, Ouyen is the commercial, cultural and transport centre for the surrounding grain farming region. Trucks regularly arrive during harvest season to transport grain to Portland and Adelaide, for shipping or for flour mills to process. 

The Ouyen Caravan Park offers sites for self-contained vehicles only, at a rate of $10 per vehicle per night, for a maximum of seven days. Potable water is available from the Oke St Community Park. Ouyen is a wonderful town to explore and is a great place for visitors to base themselves while visiting the surrounding regions.

This busy dry-land farming town is in the heart of the Victorian Mallee, and is surrounded by a beautiful array of national parks including Wyperfeld, Hattah-Kulkyne and Murray Sunset national parks. Victoria’s second largest national park is north-west of Ouyen in a semi-arid environment. Murray-Sunset National Park is a must-see with picturesque Pink Lakes changing in colour throughout the year, from deep pink to a glistening white.
