Sale is a large town situated in the Gippsland region of Victoria. The historic Port of Sale first opened to shipping in 1890. By 1890, the cutting of the Sale Canal linked the town to the Thomson River, and Sale was officially recognised as a busy port for streamers. The town continued to strive due to the gold rush, and as a result the population continued to increase. Sale has a strong military heritage, closely linked to the RAAF Base located at East Sale, which is home to the famous RAAF Roulettes aerobatic team.

Those visiting Sale can find short-term parking at Sale Motor Village, 6 Foster Street. A self-contained vehicle rate of $10 per vehicle per night is available; however, access to facilities is not available with this rate. A dump point and potable water can be found at Sale Showground and on Punt Lane.

Sale is a great place to visit and is central to all of Gippsland’s natural wonders. Whether your visit is for relaxation, sightseeing or adventure, there is something here for you. The town has excellent walks and a strong natural environment focus, with the nearby Sale Common Wetlands, national parks and beautiful beaches. The Lake Guthridge Parklands precinct showcases botanic gardens, a wetland lake and boardwalk, a series of walks - including an indigenous artwork trail, and connections to the nearby wetlands, as well as pleasant picnic and barbecue spots. The historic Swing Bridge, located just outside of Sale, is a rare example of an 1800’s steel structure that continues to swing open to allow passing river traffic.
