Cloncurry, affectionately known as "The Curry," is an historic outback town in north-west Queensland. Established in 1867 by explorer Ernest Henry following his discovery of copper, Cloncurry has played a pivotal role in Australia's mining history. With a population of 3,167 as of the 2021 census, Cloncurry is celebrated for its strong community spirit, earning the title of Queensland's Friendliest Town twice. 

Travellers visiting town can spend up to 48 hours at the Coppermine Freedom Camp. There is no cost to stay here, and sites are suitable for vehicles over 11 metres. Guests must be travelling in a self-contained vehicle as no amenities are available. Pets are welcome to stay, as long as they remain on a lead. A dump point is accessible at 57 McIlwraith Street and the Cloncurry Equestrian Centre, while potable water is available at 51 McIlwraith Street.

Cloncurry offers a rich outback experience with a mix of history, nature, and local charm. Visitors can explore aviation and medical heritage at John Flynn Place Museum and relax or fish at Chinaman Creek Dam. The Cloncurry Unearthed Museum, historic courthouse, and mining relics offer insights into the town’s past, while annual events like the Cloncurry Show and Stockman’s Challenge bring the community to life.
