Hopetoun is located on the Henty Highway, 62 kilometres north of Warracknabeal, within the Mallee region. The town is situated on the Yarriambiack Creek and is known as ‘The Gateway to the Parklands’ due to its close proximity to the Wyperfeld, Hattah-Kulkyne and Murray Sunset National Parks.
Those visiting Hopetoun can find short-term parking at Lake Lascelles, Austin Street. There are no fees for an unpowered site; however, powered sites will cost $20 per vehicle per night. A dump point is located at the corner of Henty Hwy & Evelyn Street, and potable water can be obtained from Mallee Bush Retreat, on the foreshore of Lake Lascelles.
Lake Lascelles is located 400 metres from the town centre and is a popular venue for camping, swimming, fishing and skiing, with BBQ’s, a playground, and a boat ramp on-site. The area also hosts the Mallee Bush Retreat, a unique community owned accommodation village that offers long term parking for RV’s. The neighbouring Lake Corrong is a top fishing spot and a haven for birdlife. The nearby Wyperfeld National Park is one of Victoria's largest national parks and is known for its fauna and flora. There are plenty of things to see here, and a variety of landscapes and walking trails to explore.
