Yowah is a small, outback opal mining town 938kms west of Brisbane and 132kms west of Cunnamulla. The town is known for the ‘Yowah Nut’, a type of opal distinctive to the area. The population of the town fluctuates between 60 to 250 people, depending on the season.
Those visiting Yowah will find casual parking at the corner of Bluebonnet Blvd and Harlequin Drive. Short-term and long-term parking is available at the Yowah Rest Area in Matrix Drive, off Gemwood Street where a donation is welcomed. The dump point and potable water is also situated at the rest area.
Yowah may be small but has all the amenities for the recreational vehicle traveller. The Yowah Rural Transaction Centre has the library, café, internet and of course all the visitor information you require. While in town, try a bit of opal mining at the designated area for recreational fossicking (license required), with hand tools only.
