Rainbow is a small town in north-west Victoria, just 400kms from Melbourne, in the southern Mallee region. The town was first settled in 1893 and flourished with the establishment of the railway line in 1899. Its name is derived from ‘Rainbow Rise’, a crescent shaped ridge covered in colourful wildflowers found west of the township.
Those visiting Rainbow can find short-term parking on the old tennis courts located in Park Street. There is no fee to stay here and parking is limited to 24 hours. There is a dump point located on-site as well as potable water, and pets on a lead are permitted.
Rainbow is an excellent place to visit, especially for RV travellers. The vibrant main street features a unique median strip of parkland with historical buildings and colourful hand-painted murals. Rainbow is the perfect base to explore the nearby Wyperfield National Park and Lake Hindmarsh. While visiting be sure to visit the Yuranga Homestead, an Edwardian-style home originally built in 1909, or drop into the Pella Church to view the magnificently restored pipe organ. Rainbow also hosts the Local Agricultural Show in October every year.
