Port Huon is located approximately 50 minutes south of Hobart and is just north of Geeveston. The town is comprised of a small number of houses, many dating back to the 1800’s. Port Huon is an area rich in history and is located alongside the beautiful Huon River. Its old wharves and jetties formed an important port for the four million cases of apples that were loaded annually onto trading vessels and steamers in days past. It is also at the junction of the Kermandie River and the waterways are known as the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.

Shipwrights Point offers visitors parking for up to 96 hours, for $10 per vehicle per night, as well as access to a dump point and potable water. 

A visit to the beautiful Huon Valley will provide you with pleasant memories of sweeping views of the Huon River, Bruny Island. D'Entrecasteaux Channel and the Hartz Mountains. Whilst in town, take a short stroll from the camping ground opposite the Kermandie Hotel. The nearby Wooden Boat School of traditional wooden boat building is well worth visiting, as is the drive to the forestry’s suspended walk bridge above the forest trees at Tahune. The Huon Pine Walk at the Visitors Centre takes visitors through untouched old growth forest to see first hand the world famous Huon Pine trees growing at the river’s edge.
